Over 100 Notebook Design Wins for Mobility Radeon 4800

According to Jon Peddie (president  of Jon Peddie Research) the latest GPU from ATI; RV770 or Radeon 4800 has got over 100 notebook design wins. The possibility of making it to the back-to-school season is unconfirmed but may be possible by some aggressive ramping. The GPU is also perfect for the (external) XGP solution. With the XGP, the highest end will max out with two 4870 GPUs in CrossFireX .



This marks an unusual victory for ATI, which has struggled for the last 4 years to transition its high-end GPU into the mobile space. The fundamental problem was lower performance/watt compared to Nvidia but now that situation has taken a complete 180°. After a fierce Q2 battle on the desktop front, the mobile segment is getting ready for an epic battle in Q3.
