RV770 has 800SP
According to the latest reports from Computex, the latest word going around is that RV770 is confirmed to have 800 shader processors. For reference, R600 (2900XT) & RV670 (3850/3870) had 320 shader processors. In total there are 40 TMUs paired to the 800SPs. That is 2.5x the amount of TMUs AMD had stuck to since the past 4 years. The exact configuration and more details of the chip is yet to be known.
The core clocks have been finalized; 750MHz for 4870 and 625MHz for 4850. The drivers are still not upto the mark AMD wanted for the launch but the performance still looks good. One AIB partner reckons that there will be 10-20% additional boost after some more tweaking.
The die size of RV770 is the region of 256mm². This is remarkable as the GPU is 8% larger than G94 and yet offers more than twice the performance. This also means RV770 will offer better floating point performance than the GT200 at half the cost. In gaming performance, the GT200 take the lead but will bow down to 4850 CrossFire setup. Pricing wise AMD definitely has a winner on their hands.
Even though the launch was scheduled for June 25, AMD has decided to pull the date ahead to June 19.
